Tales of Sheckley
Someone from a nearby table stood and proclaimed, "He's killed him.  He's killed Mr. van der Platz."  Sheckley thought he was seconds from his own demise.  He had failed once again and now the crowd was almost upon him.  In trying not to be a killer, he ended up a killer anyway.  Darwin had won.

People began cheering.  Applause broke out.  A hearty young man with rosy red cheeks jumped forward and grabbed Sheckley's hand.

"Congratulations, sir.  You've done it.  You've killed Mr. van der Platz.  His job is yours."

Now people everywhere were clapping Sheckley on the back and wishing him well, but watch out anyway.  Even Mr. Peterson came through the throng of well-wishers and shook Sheckley's hand.
